  1. The solution to EVERY ones problem is a combination of nuclear/ solar/wind/water/storage(hydrogen/batteries/warmth) and whenever possible lower the usage (and I mean just putting stuff off when you’re not home..)

    And yes we need nuclear fission right now and when we can do it fusion replace the nuclear fission plants with fusion

    Allot of people keep saying fission is so scary nuclear . yes it has a risks that is why the build Quality standards are so high. so high that governments would LOVE to get rid of them because they are EXPENSIVE !! (just look at Germany removes nuclear and goes to brown coal, any country that uses brown coal has a person with 0 knowledge on this subject in my opinion).

    If you look at fukushima/chernobyl the reason why things went wrong is a HUGE ass wave it was built for big ones but not this big, and Chernobyl was a low quality powerplant and human error.

    The people who made sure it would not get worse are real hero’s. and that is why every one should still use it because al those heroic deeds by those people pail in comparison to the amount killed directly/indirectly by : Coal, brown coal and oil Etc. all of those single handily outshine any deaths of the more durable power.

    For example right now we will have to see how many people will indirectly die because of Fukushima but right now its 0 direct 1 to radiation and the rest indirect (573)

    Then 1 more thing BIOMASS … PLEASE STOP BURNING @#$@#$$ TREES a tree grows for xx amount of years before its as big as the ones we are cutting down right now… it burns for 15 min …..

    to end this on a light note: we need allot more engineers that is one of the reasons I am one. BUT we also need people in power that care about the next generation and we need people in power who have an engineering background so that CAN more a dissection. so thank you finland

  2. America really needs to stop building functional cubes for buildings all the time. Even this nuclear power plant in Finland is a aesthetic masterpiece of industrial architecture inside and outside.

  3. A life form 100,000 years in the future, long after humans have destroyed themselves will unearth an unknown cavern, with an unreadable sign "Stop Highly toxic Nuclear Waste Buried Here". Hopefully they will be wise enough to take the steel framed sign back to the museum and decipher it.

  4. cool video! However, I do have one question: Why is the waste stored in individual capsules spaced very far apart? And couldn't we use more clay for bigger capsules?

  6. What???? You couldn't find any footage of a Security Officer from Finland and chose one from the USA insteadt???? The USA had nothing with this topic and is the furthest away from Finland. Bad choice, really!

  7. Is this really cheaper then just using modern energy sources that are getting more effective and u dont need to dig huge and expensive holes and hope nobody forgets where they are ? I mean this shit is still lethal longer than the modern human exists, this is also a timeframe in which quite big geological developments can occur. Is this worth a few decades of energy you could get in other ways ? The energy companies that do produce nuclear power right now wont exist anymore and nobody will even remember them long before.- how do you pay for that or even set a price ? A price a company should pay.

  8. When hiding it under the carpet is not enough, dig a hole, hide it there and put the carpet on top.
    Then someone will make a video showing you what an AMAZING idea it is.

  9. wish we did this. But now we might shut down another one of our reactors, which will leave us with energy defficiency, which will make us buy german coal ro russian gas. It looks good from an enviromentalist perspective though!

  10. All the people whining about burying it into the ground being dangerous.. It already came from the ground! As for "radioactive for hundreds of thousands if not millions of years": yes that is a good thing. That means that the radioactivity is very low. It's a certain amount of atoms that needs to decay. If they decay over a million years rather than a thousand years it means the radiation is 1/1000 as strong.
    The most dangerous materials will have decayed in a couple of hundred years. What's left are materials that are barely more radioactive than the natural background radiation.

  11. The volume of nuclear waste is generally vastly exaggerated. The total radioactive waste produced by a typical nuclear power station over the course of a year could be fitted into a box that would fit easily under your dining chair. So, not much at all.
